From student concept to the market leader!
Sendsteps was founded in 2008 by Steven Blom and Mike Coumans. Since 2001, they have been working on, what at the time still was, a student project. It has now grown into to what Sendsteps is today: the market leader in mobile interaction during presentations.
Back in the day, at student parties, text messages were sent to a big screen, to enhance engagement and fun. This quickly became a success, but Blom and Coumans weren’t satisfied to stop there. They wondered if their technique could be used at other gatherings.
Then one day, during a presentation they attended they have got an idea. Blom and Coumans noticed that the audience wasn’t involved at all. They were bored. The communication was one-way. The speaker spoke for too long without engaging his audience, and as a result, the audience (including themselves) wasn’t retaining any of information he was presenting.
We can do it differently: our mission
Three existing platforms were connected via software Sendteps develops: PowerPoint, Internet and mobile telephone. It was the birth of the Sendsteps plug-in. Now everyone, during any presentation, can start a dialogue with the audience.
In the beginning, the audience could only react via text messaging. With the rise of the smart phones, the Internet and Twitter became also useful tools to communicate. So, in 2010 Internet and Twitter were added to the plug-in. In the last few years, the plug-in continued to develop and different updates enabled more applications. With this, our mission became more concrete: To enable organizations and people around the world to truly communicate with each other by engaging in a dialogue anywhere, anytime at any event.
