Steps
Look at the bottom of the editor. If you do not see Voice-over script, voice-over is turned off for this account. It is not part of a plan. Someone who manages the account turns it on. The extra is called Voice-over script tab.
- Open the presentation in the editor.
- At the bottom, choose Speaker notes & interactive tools if that panel is closed.
- Choose the tab Voice-over script.
- Choose a voice. If the list is empty, it says Select a voice… Wait if it says Loading voices…
- You can shorten the list with Voice gender. The choices are All, Male, and Female.
- Click Script for this slide. Type the words that should be spoken. The empty field says Type what should be spoken on this slide…
- Choose Pre-synthesize. This creates the audio from your script. The button says Pre-synthesizing… while it works.
- When it is done, the status says Pre-synthesized. The button changes to Re-synthesize.
- Choose Test play to hear it. While it prepares, the button says Synthesizing… While it plays, the button says Stop.
Record instead
Use this when you are presenting, and you want to speak the slide yourself.
- Open Record voice-over.
- Choose With subtitles or Without subtitles.
- The first time, you see Consent to process your voice. Tick I consent to Sendsteps recording and processing my voice for presentation voice-over scripts.
- Choose I agree and start recording. The screen says Starting recording… Please wait.
- When you are done, choose Stop recording. The screen says Saving slide recording… and then the slide shows Recorded voice-over.
What you see
The slide keeps the words and the audio. A script you created with Pre-synthesize shows Pre-synthesized. A recording shows Recorded voice-over.
To change the words after the audio is stored, edit the script. That removes the audio. Or choose Unlock script to clear the audio and keep the words. The hint on screen says Edit the script (discards this audio), or unlock to clear audio without changing text.
What participants hear
They hear nothing on the live join screen. They hear the audio later, on their own device, from a link you share. See Listen to a voice-over.
If it does not work
If the tab is missing, voice-over is turned off for the account.
If the voice list fails, you see Failed to load voices.
If creating the audio fails, you see Pre-synthesis failed.
If playback fails, you see Voice-over failed or Audio playback failed.
If a recording has no file, you see Recorded voice-over audio is missing.
If you press play before the audio exists, the control tells you what is missing: Select a voice in the Voice-over script tab, Add a voice-over script for this slide, or Synthesize this slide in the Voice-over tab first.
